Your last 20 mashups. Use “Generate Again From This Combination” to keep the same genres, tone, setting, and scale while getting a brand-new creative direction.
Mashups you generate will appear here.
Pick a Primary Genre and, if you'd like, a Secondary Genre to combine it with — or set either to “Surprise Me” and let the generator decide, including whether to mash up two genres at all. Add a Tone, Setting, and Story Scale, and optionally check Add a Wild Card Twist for one extra unexpected complication. Click Create Mashup and you'll get a Creative Direction, a Story Hook, an Interesting Question, a Writing Challenge, and three “What If?” prompts, all built around your genre combination.
Use the six filters — Family Friendly, No Paranormal, No Romance, No Violence, Historical Only, Contemporary Only — to keep results within your comfort zone or project needs. Surprise Me Completely ignores every filter for one spin without changing your saved settings. Save mashups you like, and revisit Inspiration History to generate a brand-new direction from a combination you've already used.
It's one extra unexpected complication layered onto your creative direction — something like an object, event, or revelation that pushes the premise somewhere less predictable. It's entirely optional and only compatible elements ever appear for a given genre (a sci-fi wild card won't show up in a Cozy Mystery result, for example).
No — if you pick the same genre for both Primary and Secondary, the tool treats it as a single-genre mashup instead of a duplicate.
They're enforced directly in generation. For example, No Violence and Family Friendly both cap every result at the gentlest content level, even if you've chosen a genre like Thriller that would normally allow more intensity.
A creative direction is only the beginning. My complete fiction planning tools help you develop plots, characters, timelines, research, conflicts, and complete story structures.
